Cowards With Power
By Mekhala Mira
Every day seems the same.
I look for exits when I enter a room.
I can’t play,
Fear steals my day,
I wear running shoes.
Every day seems the same.
Cowards with power smile when they kill.
They revel in our pain,
They cheat to win the game,
I try not to hate,
But when I read the news,
I can’t help but think,
“I hope this happens to you.”
Empathy has no more use.
Look what you’ve turned me into.
You don’t think and you don’t pray,
Your words are spoken in bad faith,
You gaslight us so we give up,
But we find strength because we know
We have something worth fighting for.
